Are credit scores important? Can I buy a car if my score is low?

Saturday, January 12th, 2019

Credit scores are a reflection of your loan payment history. If you sign your name on a loan contract, you are promising to pay the money back. On time. If you are late on payments or just decide not to pay the loan back, it will be reported to the credit bureaus. That report is a reflection of your ability to keep promises.  Keeping a sterling payment history should be a high priority for anyone who lives on planet earth. We understand that there are life events that necessitate payment accommodations, however they should be rare. Please remember that you promised to pay back the money that was lent to you at the time of sale.

If you have had some credit issues, we can help you restart. We have lenders that will take a chance on a borrower with a checkered credit history.  These lenders charge a higher interest rate, because they are taking a greater risk then a borrower with good credit. Cornerstone auto sales is in business to help all drivers regardless of credit history. Just know that a higher interest rate will have to be charged for higher risk loans. We report to the credit bureaus. That is an advantage for anyone reestablishing a good credit reputation. Please find a vehicle on our website: www.cornerstoneautosales.com. Then fill out the credit application. We will take it from there and you will be driving that same day.

Why should I trade in my old vehicle?

Thursday, January 10th, 2019

There are several great reasons to trade in your old vehicle at the time of purchase of a new car. One very good reason is that it reduces the price that is taxed on the new vehicle you purchase. That could save a LOT of money. Another reason is that it takes the hassle of selling the old car off your shoulders. It is one less burden that you need to deal with. You will not have to advertise it on craigslist, facebook marketplace, or yahoo autos. Then, you will not have strangers showing up at your home or office. Often the purchaser will want to haggle and go back and forth on the price with you. If you don’t negotiate a lot in your daily life, haggling can be a bit of a burden. There are a lot of people who get vehicles stolen by trying to sell them on their own.

Another problem trying to sell your old car is that many people make appointments to see the vehicle and don’t show up. That is a huge waste of your time and money.

Cornerstone auto sales in Tucson Az will take the pain of disposing your old car and get you driving a newer vehicle.

Why do we ask you for Down Payment?

Friday, January 4th, 2019

The down payment is the amount of cash or trade-in equity you give at the time of purchase. The larger the down payment you make, the lower the amount financed is. When you lower the amount you finance on a vehicle it translates to lower monthly payments. Lower payments make it much easier for a bank to offer financing. It also allows the bank to offer lower interest rates, because they are taking less risk on the loan. Everyone wins with large down payments. You and your pocketbook win because you are paying less finance charges, lower interest rates, and shorter term loan. The bank wins because they are taking less risk lending you the money to purchase the vehicle.

Another benefit of putting a down payment is that it keeps you from becoming “upside down” on your loan. Or in other words, not ending up owing more  to the bank than the value of the vehicle.

Cornerstone Auto Sales will work with you on your down payment, however we encourage the largest down payment you can comfortably afford for your benefit.

Feel free to fill out a credit application on our website www.cornerstoneautosales.com,  and we will take care of the rest.

New Years Resolutions

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2019

Loose some pounds? Exercise some more? Get more sleep?

Those are nice goals for the new year, however, why don’t you try some of these goals on for the new year?

  1. Fix that check engine light! That’s right. Just bite the bullet and get it fixed. You know it has been annoying you for a long time. It’s probably an easy fix anyway. Most likely you’ll need to replace an O2 sensor, or replace your fuel cap, or maybe even replace your spark plugs.  But, getting that annoying light out will make you feel better, and your vehicle will last longer.
  2. Wash and Vacuum! You are going to feel alot better about your commute when you get those old french fries off the underside of the seat.  How about wiping the dusty dash, and cleaning that old coffee stain? By doing a quick wash and vacuum you are going to fall in love with your car all over again.
  3. Spring for new tires. It makes your car run down the road better, makes it safer on the days you have to drive in the rain, and you have peace of mind letting your kids drive the car knowing you are not going to get a phone call about a flat tire.
  4. Trade it in at Cornerstone auto sales! We will give you full value for the old car, and you can drive away with something you like much better.  I suggest looking at our inventory listed on our website, www.cornerstoneautosles.com.

Can I buy a vehicle at Cornerstone Auto Sales from out of the state of Arizona?

Wednesday, December 26th, 2018

The short answer is YES!

You can purchase a vehicle from our dealership at 5 E Fort Lowell Rd. Tucson AZ 85705 and take it to any other state you wish. There are a few forms that need to be filled out at the time of purchase, then we send you on your way with at 90 day temporary permit. Arizona Form 5011 needs to be filled out and then an Arizona 90-day nonresident permit needs to be purchased from the state for $15.00.

Cornerstone auto sales is obligated to collect Arizona Sales tax at the time of purchase. You might have to pay the difference when you go to register it in your home state if that state’s sales tax is higher than ours. (Our sales tax rate is 7.7% at the time of this writing). Another issue to be aware of is emissions tests. When you attempt to register the vehicle you purchased from us, your state may require an emissions test be performed.

We have such good prices on high demand vehicles, that we often get purchase inquiries from out of state.   We encourage you to browse our inventory from any corner of the globe, then contact us to make purchase arrangements. Our website is:  https://www.autocornerstone.com/. Our phone number is 520-838-0212.

How much is my Car worth??

Saturday, December 22nd, 2018

We here at Cornerstone Auto Sales, in Tucson AZ, get that question on an almost daily basis. We all know that the worth of a thing,  is what someone is willing to pay for it.  But to better answer the question of trade in value, I think there are  6 main areas to concentrate on.

  1. MILEAGE AND MECHANICAL UPKEEP.

The odometer doesn’t tell lies. The mileage on the vehicle has a tremendous impact on its value. Low mile vehicles are ALWAYS in demand. Low mile vehicles are supposed to be less risky an investment then high mileage vehicles.   However, a vehicle that has a lot of miles on the odometer, but has detailed records of maintenance, can demand a higher value then a vehicle without records. In fact, many people will look past a certain amount of miles, if regular maintenance records can be produced.

2. OPTIONS

If there were two vehicles that were the same year and mileage, but one had more options then the other one, the higher option vehicle would have more value. But please remember this: AFTERMARKET ADDITIONS DON’T COUNT!!  Adding 22″ rims, and an aftermarket stereo doesn’t add value. In fact that stuff hinders the value. Aftermarket additions have a bad habit of not fitting, not functioning as advertised, and looking cheap. Keeping it factory is always the best option.

3.INTERIOR CONDITION

Smell matters. An interior that has a foul odor doesn’t hold its value in the marketplace. 3 odors in particular are most prevalent in the vehicles we appraise.  Cigarette smoke smell, pets,  and old food and soda smells. Also, those 3 thing have a bad habit of staining the carpets and seats. Cars and trucks and SUV’s with odors and stains just don’t add value. The have the effect of making the potential new owner question how well the vehicle was maintained, because a dirty interior could indicate lax maintenance.

4.EXTERIOR CONDITION

Dents, scratches, and bumps all lower the value of a vehicle. Faded paint is another problem we face in the Tucson area.

5. TIRES

Tires are one of the first things a potential purchaser of a vehicle looks at. Old, weather checked, and worn out tires diminish value! A smart man once told me to always have “knee deep” rubber on a vehicle when it comes time to sell. The cost of the tires will almost make it back to you in the price you can command for the vehicle.

6. MARKET CONDITIONS

Like everything in this life, it comes down to supply and demand. When demand is high, you get more for your trade-in. When demand is high, and supply is low, you get even more for your trade-in.

Please keep these factors in mind when it comes time to trade in your old vehicle for a newer one.

What kind of down payment do I need to finance a car?

Friday, December 21st, 2018

Many people are afraid they will not qualify for an automobile loan because they do not have enough down payment, or no down payment at all. While down payment is a great thing to come into a car loan with, we often find that some customers can qualify for an automobile loan with little or no down payment at all. Here at Cornerstone Used Car Sales, we find that the customers with good to excellent credit scores qualify for loans without the necessity of putting a large down payment. However, we also find that customers with the best credit scores often voluntarily put a large down payment to make the loan payments more affordable.

Down payments reduce the amount financed of the car loan. The lower the amount financed, the lower the monthly payments. Therefore, we always encourage our customers to put as much down payment as possible to make the monthly payments more affordable. Of course, your interest rate will affect the amount of the monthly payment.

Since we are a Tucson Arizona used car dealership, we can offer our customers a variety of loan options and down payment options. Please give us a call at 520-838-0212 so we can answer your down payment questions.

How to Buy a Car With Bad Credit

Wednesday, December 19th, 2018

Your credit score has a lot to do with the kind of loan you qualify for.     Lenders base a lot of the loan decision on what your credit score is. They also weigh the risks of lending you money for a car loan based on your credit score. We recommend checking your credit bureau periodically to find out if there are errors that need correction. Sometimes if you pay some small collections on your credit report, your score can be boosted above the coveted 700 score range. That will allow you to qualify for lower cost lower interest loans.

The good thing for a person with bad credit score in the Tucson and Sierra Vista area is that vehicles are still available from our dealership, Cornerstone Auto Sales LLC. We specialize in lending car loans to people with damaged credit. We have several banks that we work with to secure a loan for almost any credit situation.

The best thing to do is come into the dealership with a paycheck stub, insurance, and the downpayment you have budgeted. We will work the rest to fit your budget and find a vehicle that is right for you and your family.

What to do when your vehicle doesn’t have an owners manual in the glove box.

Wednesday, December 19th, 2018

We ran into an issue the other day with one of our very good customers. She drove in the lot, wondering how she was going to get the fuel gauge to appear on the dashboard. She was pressing buttons and her fuel gauge was replaced with an “estimated time of arrival” gauge. She tried to reverse herself and press the buttons that would make the fuel gauge reappear, but to no avail. It was a that point the customer decided to return to Cornerstone Auto Sales where she purchased the vehicle and ask us how to fix her gauges.

The first thing the salesman and I did was to open the glove box, looking for help in the owner’s manual. There wasn’t an owners manual anywhere in the vehicle. We started pushing buttons, sliding levers, and turning knobs. We had the same luck as the customer trying to fix the dash problem. It was at that point that a light bulb went off and we decided to ask google how to fix our problem.

To our surprise we were immediately sent to a webpage with a PDF of the vehicle owner’s manual! Within 5 minutes we has the thing figured out. The customer was so happy to be able to gauge her fuel economy.

The lesson of all that is: almost always someone has uploaded an owners manual for your vehicle to the internet.
